Karan Johar’s Kalank is definitely one of the most beautiful movies made in past few years. Well choreographed songs, beautiful actresses, stunning larger than life sets, modern best onscreen couple Varun-Alia together with forever beautiful Madhuri Dixit, what could go wrong here, right? Lets find out in this review.

Story and Screenplay:

The movie is set in 1940s but the visuals of the films doesn’t justify it. It’s too glamorous and larger than life. But I guess, Abhishek Verman wanted you to take you to a fictional world, because most of the locations and sets doesn’t go with the time and situation of the film.
The movie is made in Sanjay Leela Bhansali style but with the logic of Karan Johar Style. You can’t expect realism or logic here.
The film tells the story of Alia Bhatt being forced to marry already married Aditya Roy Kapoor because his previous wife played by Sonakshi Sinha is dying. Sanjay Dutt is playing the father of Aditya Roy Kapoor, who also had a love affair with Madhuri Dixit and has a son played by Varun Dhawan.
Varun Dhawan decides to take a revenge because his father left him, so he makes Alia Bhatt fall in love with her, what happens next you will find out in the film.

Cast and Acting.

The people who did manage to impress in the film are Varun Dhawan, Kunal Khemu and Madhuri Dixit, rest of the cast did decent work. Kunal proves that he is an underrated actor with this film. He plays the friend of Varun Dhawan.

Songs.

Varun Dhawan Kriti Sanon Aditya Roy KApur aira gaira kalank

The makers of the film tried to cover up everything in the film – while Ghar More Pardesiya definitely won people’s heart because of Shreya’s vocals, Tabah Ho Gaye is there just to give Madhuri her solo song. First Class is a dance number not really needed in the film, and I have some questions about Aira Gaira featuring Kriti Sanon, why is this song in the film?

Writing and Direction.

Abhishek Verman did good job putting it all together with such stunning visuals but it lacks something. Since you have already seen Sanjay leela Bhansali movies, you definitely expect a lot more. The writing of the film is not as good as audiences were expecting too.
A big budget film, with a huge star cast again fails to impress because of the script and story.
RATING : 2.5/5
