How did Siddhant Chaturvedi got the role of MC Sher in Gully Boy?

Gully Boy has been declared the best film of 2019. Directed by Zoya Akhtar and starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles, Gully Boy takes you into a new world of street rap. Despite facing a bit of criticism for being inspired from Eminem’s film 8 Mile, the film has been doing magic at the box office. 

From critics to TV and Bollywood stars, everyone is talking about Gully Boy. Apart from the incredible performances by Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, one other character that is gaining more popularity and becoming everyone’s favorite is MC Sher played by Siddhanth Chaturvedi. Here is how he got the part in the film.

In a recent interview, Zoya Akhtar told Anupama Chopra that all the casting of all the characters in the film was done except the casting of MC Sher. The director was looking for an actor to play this role while only a couple of weeks were left to start the film.

In a party, Zoya noticed a guy on the dance floor. The way he was dancing and his attitude and swag, totally blew Zoya’s mind. She called the guy and introduced herself.

Zoya – Hi, I am Zoya, and I make movies,

Siddhanth – I know who you are and I know you didn’t recognize me. I am an actor and I was in Inside Edge.

Zoya – Sorry I haven’t seen it.

Siddhant – I figured and which is why I have been dancing so that you notice me.

Zoya told him about the film and asked him to come next day and audition for the role. Siddhant went for the audition and got the part.

Siddhant also revealed it one of his interviews with more details about how he was introduced to Divine and Nezy by Zoya and they talked. Siddhant had to audition with a rap song that Divine and Naezy wrote for him, but instead Siddhant wrote his own song about his own struggle in the Industry and went for the adution.
