Om Puri was a legend, a gem for Indian cinema who has been an inspiration to so many young actors. Did you know that Om Puri came from a lower middle class family and has no knowledge of English? But this best and fine actor of Bollywood went on to work in dozens of Hollywood films and TV shows.

In a talk show titled The Anupam Kherr Show – Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai, Om Puri revealed how he struggled with English language when he first enrolled himself into NSD (National School Of Drama), there he also met the fellow actor and friend, Naseeruddin Shah, who knew English very well.

Coming from a Punjabi medium school, Om Puri didn’t know much English but his mentor at NSD encouraged him to not give up and learn English through reading newspapers and talking to friends. The actor did exactly what he was told and grabbed roles in many English projects in Hollywood and British Films.
